VRX Studios is not only the creator of the best visual content for the online
travel industry, it's also the best place to work!
The VRX work environment is challenging and diverse - VRX employees reflect a
variety of people, professional affiliations and disciplines. Corporate
benefits include generous health insurance coverage as well as support for
employees wishing to further work-related education. There are also several
opportunities for each team to play together, and learn from one another on a
regular basis.
Here are some of the reasons that VRX team members have grown closer and become
even more efficient during the five years that VRX has been in business.
An inspiring workspace
The VRX studio ambiance features a balanced blend of business and personality.
A walk around the VRX studio reveals imaginative personal items on desks or
workstations - toys, stickers, photos, cards, lava lamps, cutouts, aquariums…
even managers' desks are decorated with colorful sculptures, creative artwork
and, of course, photographs. Colorful VRX walls feature the company's Core Values and Purpose, effectively reminding everyone that this is a working space - and also a fun place to move the business forward.
9:07 meetings
Every morning, there is a short general meeting that allows each team to state
their daily objectives. This helps each employee assess how their work fits
into the grand vision of the company. Major issues are discussed, and daily
goals are outlined.
Open door policy
There no doors at VRX Studios - everyone works in a bullpen environment.
Managers' offices are as open, and doorless, as those of their team members.
VRX employees can approach management at any time with thoughts and ideas.
Bi-weekly lunch and learn sessions
Every two weeks, a team member presents a short discussion about topics that
will be of interest to the rest of the studio. Past topics include the history
of VRX Studios, a day in the life of the sales team, tips and tricks of image
correction, and photography tech sessions. These topics help team members
understand how each person impacts their team, and how each team impacts the
business of the company.
Stress busters
Every second Friday, each employee can enjoy a 10-minute massage at the studio. This quick break relaxes tired and strained muscles.
Seasonal activities
VRX Studios is a fun place to work in. Events are organized on a weekly,
monthly, quarterly and annual basis and are important ingredients in VRX
Studio's culture. During annual holidays such as Hallowe'en or Christmas, the
office is transformed into a festive display of lights, costumes and
decorations.
During Hallowe'en, VRX employees dress up in costumes and prizes are awarded
for most original costumes. During Christmas, small Secret Santa gifts are
exchanged and a large company party is organized for employees and their
significant others.
Team building and other fun events
Communication between team members and different divisions is not always
structured. VRX people work very hard, and projects are run under strict and
sometimes short deadlines. But the VRX workplace is young, fun, and energetic -
and consistently attracts the top performers in their field.
VRX team events help foster a positive corporate culture. Imaginative and
competitive events help build rapport and team work. Employees get to know one
another as people - not just as work mates. VRX events allow employees to work
better together while completing a fun challenge. Challenges bring together
people who usually work on different teams. Even management gets involved -
during these events, it's all a level playing field.
An Afternoon at the Movies - every year, the Studio team votes on a list of
movies, then rents out a theatre for the afternoon to watch the films back-to-back.
Summer BBQ - a fun weekend afternoon spent with coworkers and
their families, relaxing around good food and warm sunshine.
Annual Go-Kart Challenge - Everyone looks forward to the annual Go-Kart
racing afternoon. Competitive spirits are bared, engines are revved, and then
prizes were awarded to the top three racers.
Annual Egg Drop Event - grouped in small teams and using only a limited set of materials, employees are tasked with designing a protective enclosure for a raw egg. Each team's design is tested by dropping a packaged egg to the ground. Teams are awarded special prizes for durability, longevity, and creativity. Each year the event underlines the teams' creativity and sense of humor - from eggs with parachutes to eggs wrapped in inflated balloons - the teams' creativity is always boundless, as is the laughter.
Annual Marshmallow Challenge - Another fun event! Studio members are divided into teams of three or four people and tasked with building the tallest tower possible using only marshmallows and dry spaghetti noodles. Teams are given 45 minutes to complete their task and each structure must remain standing for at least 5 minutes before it is measured.
